THE CREATIVE PROCESS PUTS US IN TOUCH WITH HOW TO SIT WITH THE UNKNOWN, HOW TO SHAPE CHANGE, AND HOW TO OFFER BEAUTY AS A RESPONSE TO DIFFICULT TIMES

In each week of this series, we’ll be guided through a creative process that blends art therapy and spiritual inquiry. Each class begins with a grounding practice, moves into inquiry and discussion, and then drops into non-conversational art making, followed by a reflective writing practice.

  • In our first week, we explore what it’s like inside the creative unknown, the space of possibility before it is shaped by intention. What does it feel like to contact the place where all knowns are released and we are simply there?

  • Once we have dropped into the void, how do we hone our ability to listen? What are the cues we are listening and feeling for? How do we know which way the energy is moving us? What are our natural responses?

  • In the third week, we practice giving more shape to what emerges from our listening, starting to be in conversation with creativity as it moves through us, a back and forth dance.

  • In this final week, we bring what we’ve been practicing together in one longer-form creative session, where we invite and allow expressions of beauty to emerge, in whatever form they may take, and we spend some time creating intentions for our practice moving forward.

This four-week flow gently guides us into remembering what it’s like to be a human in a body engaging in creative practice.

Kim has been teaching and facilitating topics related to healing, spirituality, sexuality, community-building, and art-making in small group settings for 15 years, as well as practicing art for as long as she can remember. They hold a BFA in painting from UNCA (find her recent work here). She loves so much of the work that comes out of the fine art world, but they also see the harm that comes from presenting creativity as the sole territory of fine artists. She’s passionate about helping people of all experience levels find greater connection to their creativity and the creative process. They believe our capacity to be with change and the wild uncertainty of these times is something we can grow through creative practice. Learn more about Kim on our About page.
